Enjoy a unique exploration of the island from the sea, with superb vistas of the rainforested peaks. We sail from Avatiu with a break at one of our private sheltered mooring points for a swim/snorkel and we may call into Avana natural harbour, historic departure point of the Polynesian vakas and crew that discovered New Zealand, if conditions allow. A buffet lunch comprising mouthwatering island recipes and refreshments is included.

A sultry evening cruise. Relax on deck and enjoy stunning views of the island as the sun goes down creating a myriad of wonderful hues in the evening sky. You may even see the 'green flash' - caused by light refraction through the still and clear air. Snacks and a cocktail included.
Cruises depart daily from Avatiu wharf, opposite the CITC main supermarket to the West of Avarua.

Sail a Cook Islands Vaka!
$95 per person for 2 hours
Tropicbird Sailing has exclusive access to two sailing vakas designed and built in the Cook Islands by Thomas Koteka. These vakas have a main hull and outrigger and are only found in Rarotonga, offering a unique island sailing experience. We are delighted to offer this for visitors to the island. Join us for an awesome time on Muri Lagoon.
Enjoy the thrills and spills aboard - getting fully involved with wind awareness and sail handling with our experienced skipper, take in the scenery and enjoy! These vakas can reach speeds of up to 10 knots, or we can take things slower and take time to snorkel in the lagoon. A 'must do' in Raro and an experience that cannot be repeated elsewhere in the world!!
This most importantly allows time to enjoy a sail when the sea is rough outside the lagoon. Time on the water is preceded by a full safety brief and explanation of the rig and handling followed by sailing around a motu (lagoon island) or two. Lunch can be bought at additional cost at Sails restaurant or at Fruits of Rarotonga, depending upon time available/tides.

CANCELLATIONS AND ADVERSE WEATHER:
Due to occasional adverse weather conditions beyond our control we may sometimes have to reschedule cruises. In such instances any payment will be fully refunded if you are unable to attend a cruise on a different date.
Cancellations will be fully charged where less than 24 hours notice is given.
